• Chlorination is the cure for bad water
    • Cake the inside of the pump, piping and distribution system
    • Will clog pipes
    • Cause premature pump failure
    • Develop odors in your water and unsavory flavors
    • Clog your water softener (contrary to popular opinion, the water softener has no effect on iron bacteria. Rather, iron bacteria is an enemy your water softener is defenseless to fend off without proper maintenance)

Chlorination is the weapon of choice in fighting iron bacteria. It is recommended that you have your well chlorinated annually by a professional well and pump technician. And, it is crucial that you have a certified professional perform this procedure. Some homeowners will purchase chlorine and chlorinate their wells themselves. However, if the chlorine is poured inside the pit-less adapter in the well, the adapter will corrode and, the next time you or your water, well and pump technician needs to retrieve the pump from the well it won't come out and further costly repairs will be required.
